I really wanted to use discussion space to consider what exactly we are trying to achieve and to attempt to keep ourselves within an ethical framework.
Why is it that advertisers, religion and government are able to blur reality, To con people out of their money, beliefs and lives, but if we do it we are unethical?
Being relativist, ie “at least we're not as bad as them” doesn’t strengthen our case. Im also interested in considering what we are doing / and can do in relation to what the Cloudmaker concerns against playing the Darkest puzzle were: http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/cloudmakers/message/44334 Although they don't use the term game, we do.
Hey speaking of games, there are a mounting report of the Military exercises and training games that were taking place ON SEPTEMBER 11.
Inside STRATCOM on September 11: Offutt exercise took real-life twist, from the Omaha WorldHerald, February 27, 2002
“Global Guardian is one of many "practice Armageddons," as they sometimes are called, that the U.S. military stages to test its readiness. That the exercise was, according to briefers, "in full swing" at the time the United States came under attack is at least an odd coincidence”
I thought i read about this last year but i just checked and it was another one. Two separate war games on 9/11? The scene at NORAD on Sept. 11 ; Playing Russian war games ... and then someone shouted to look at the monitor http://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/thestar/access/426239581.html?did=426239581&FMT=ABS
Theres an article here which i have also posted in the Pentagon section in which pilots mention the training mission on 9/11 http://www.aviationweek.com/aw/generic/story_generic.jsp?channel=awst&id=news/aw090971.xml
There's was a very in-depth discussion on CM for why we shouldn’t be gaming real world problems earlier in the year. I bring it up because I think this stuff is important given that (to my knowledge) civilians have not attempted to solve an international crime in the way that we now are. I don't question our motives here but I do think that considering the arguments made on CM is constructive. http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/cloudmakers/message/46886
Not really related but i've been playing heaps of GTA Vice City. Has anyone played this? its awesome! Easily the biggest highlight is the soundtrack. The car radios are packed full of hits from the 80's and also feature plenty of right wing and independent radio talk back, there are even advertisements. Nostalgia pulled of extremely well.
